Peter shares their NHS memories
I was born in London in April 1948 just before the NHS was formally available.
Just a few short months later I contracted a respiratory infection that developed into pnuemonia. My parents could not have afforded the medical treatment that the new NHS provided for me later in 1948.
My parents were always adamant that I would not have survived without that treatment which included, amongst others, access to then 'wonder drug' penicillin.
Throughout my life I have been grateful for our NHS; acute occasions such as a dislocated hip at the age of 7 and ever available dental care which has ensured I still have most of my own teeth at the age of 75!
