Sara Tyler - shares her NHS memories

Sara shares her experience of the NHS care she received.

In 2014, I was diagnosed with a rare form of cervical cancer (small cell neuroendocrine) when I was 20 weeks pregnant, age 27.

From the first day I went into the hospital with symptoms, the care I received from the medical team around me was outstanding, to say the least. They hadn’t come across a case like mine before so they had to liaise with The Royal Marsden Hospital in London to put together a treatment plan for me.

I received chemotherapy during my pregnancy after it had been thoroughly researched into which drugs were safe during pregnancy, and my treatment continued after the birth of my baby.

Thanks to the wonderful team I had, my daughter was born safely at 32 weeks gestation and received the most wonderful care in the Neonatal unit. She thrived and came home 2 and a half weeks later.

After finishing my intensive treatment, I have since had no evidence of disease. The NHS and my amazing medical team saved my life, and my daughter’s.

I will be eternally grateful for everything they did for us.
