Our public consultation on hospital based acute stroke services in Somerset has now closed. Thank you to everyone who has taken part and provided feedback.
Stroke is a sudden and life-changing event, and is a leading cause of death and disability in the UK. Over recent years, there have been significant advances in proven, highly effective methods of stroke treatment and care.
NHS Somerset has just finished a public consultation to gather feedback about the future of hyper acute stroke care and acute stroke care in Somerset. The consultation ran for 12 weeks from Monday 30 January 2023 until Monday 23 April 2023.
We received over 1,300 responses to the online questionnaire. The responses will be analysed alongside all the other feedback gathered from our telephone survey, insights gathered from events and any other feedback we received.
We’re committed to understanding the needs of our local population to make sure we can continue to deliver the best possible health and care services in Somerset.
Next steps
All the feedback gathered will be analysed by an independent research organisation. They’ll prepare a report setting out what people have said about the proposals for the NHS Somerset Board. We will publish the feedback report on these pages.
The consultation feedback report will help to inform the development of a new Decision-Making Business Case, which will outline what course of action is recommended. The recommended way forward will go to the NHS Somerset Board to enable them to make a final decision. We expect this Board meeting to take place towards the end of the year.
The final decision-making meeting will be held in public to allow those interested to hear the discussion and how the decision is made. We will publish details of this public Board meeting on the NHS Somerset website.
Once a decision has been made, change to stroke services would take place overtime.
Even though the consultation has ended you can still read the information on the proposals for hyper acute stroke services and acute stroke services in Somerset on our website at – www.oursomerset.org.uk/stroke
